Cross River plans to boost  primary healthcare services

Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk has announced plans to further boost primary healthcare services in the state.

He has assured the people of the state of adequate provision of primary healthcare services.

He disclosed that they  will collaborate with church, government, ministry and agencies to improve the health status of the people.

He stated this in his office in  Calabar while speaking with journalists.

He  also said that people should not use the money meant for the education of their children to fund health challenges, as the State Government is creating impactful programs to offer the people free medical services. 

According to him, “the right of everyone, everywhere is to have access to quality health services, education, information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions and freedom from discrimination”.

He assured that access to good and quality health should not be seen as a privilege but one’s right. 

He also pointed out that the leadership of the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu is making efforts to make sure that all Local Government Areas have functional hospitals, as evidenced by the establishment of General Hospital Ikom.

In addition, Cottage Hospital Oban and a few other hospitals are being renovated to meet the health needs of citizens of the state, he added. 

In addition, Dr Ayuk noted that the State government has approved the construction of General Hospital in Ikom LGA of the State, which is under supervision by the commissioner of health and called on various agencies to partner with the ministry to improve the health services rendered to the people. 

He however, stated that the ministry of health has devised means to enhance health care financing system, Free services for antennal care, children below 5 years, and people above 70 years. This is aimed at Heath equity and health resource.

He assured that the free healthcare services shall be provided under a well conditioned health facilities and provide sensitization outreach services to various communities.
