Delay in February salary not intentional – Bureau, as Taraba NLC assures LG workers

By Celestine Ihejirika, Jalingo

Taraba State Bureau for Local Government, Traditions and Chieftaincy Affairs, (BLGT&CA) has said delay in February salary of local government council workers was not intentional.

Speaking against the general outcry by council workers over delay during an interview with our correspondent in Jalingo on Sunday, the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Godfrey Dame Andrew sued for calm as the issue will soon be over.

According to him, the delay was not from the state Government but the inability of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to release the monthly statutory fund for payment of local government salary which he said was not only peculiar to Taraba state but across board.

He said “the attention of the Bureau for Local Government, Tradition and Chieftaincy Affairs has been drawn on the outcry by staff of the local government councils in the state over the delay in payment of February 2025 salaries. The delay is connected with the bureau’s inability to receive the monthly allocation of payment of the said salaries from the federation account allocation committee (FAAC) and not caused by the state government”.

Engr. Andrew however urged the council workers and general public not to perceive the issue as intentional, noting that state government is resolute and committed to the welfare of local government staff while assuring them of payment of salary as soon as the allocation for local government was received from federation account.

Also speaking, the state Chairman, Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), Comrade Peter Jediel assures council workers of getting their salaries any moment from this week.

While appealing for patience and calm, Comrade Jediel reminded them that there was no condition that is permanent, noting that the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas has remained resolute in issue concerning welfare of workers even as he said the current delay; in the salary was entirely from FAAC.
