Doma South assembly re-run election: NNPP’s Musa Ekye defeats APC’s Osewu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar (Alias Ekye) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the winner of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly ( NSHA) re-run election after defeating Hon. John Osewu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NNPP candidate scored 122 votes, while the APC candidate got only 5 votes held at Bassa 1 polling unit.

INEC returning officer Professor Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu from Federal University Lafia said the election was contested to the conclusion. He announced that combining the results of the March 18, 2023, election and the re-run of February 3, 2024, in Doma South State House of Assembly Constituency, it showed that Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar of NNPP scored a total of 4,776 votes to defeat Hon. John Osewu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 3,931 votes.

Professor Abubakar further explained that Musa Ibrahim Abubakar of NNPP, having satisfied the requirements by law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.

Winner of the election, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar said, “I commended INEC and all stakeholders for the smooth conduct of the election. I dedicate my victory to Allah and thanked his constituents for affirming their mandate given to him in the March 18, 2023, election.

“I pledge to continue developing my constituency, Nasarawa State and Nigeria with dividends of democracy.” Said Honourable Musa Ibrahim Abdullahi.

In his remarks, Chairman of Doma Local Government, Architect Ahmed Usman Sarki congratulated the winner of the re-run election and called on him to embrace all people of his Doma South Constituency irrespective of political affiliations.

The state Commissioner of Police Usman Nadada and Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Shehu El-Wahab expressed satisfaction conduct of the election.

It could be recalled that s noted the Court of Appeal directed INEC to conduct a re-run election at Unguwar Sarki Bassa 1 polling unit based on the petition before it by Hon. John Osewu of APC challenging the declaration of Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar as the winner of Doma South State Assembly.

Honourable Musa Ibrahim Abubakar will continue as a member of NSHA and chairman, House committee for Local Government at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
