Don’t force career path on your children – Salem Academy, Abuja

Mrs Priscilla Mike Abur, Career Counselor of Salem Academy, Lugbe Abuja has called on parents to avoid forcing a choice of career different from what their children or wards want to pursue in life.

She made the disclosure at the annual career day with the theme: “Pathway to success” held in the school on Thursday.

According to her, “parents should endeavour to spare time with their children and wards into to agree on the career and it’s benefits to the person and the society.

“Many parents have problems with their children because they prefer different professions from what their children have chosen.

“But these anomalies should be addressed amicably through career counseling, dialogue, excursions amongst,” Mrs Abur said.

In there separate speeches, many professionals like engineers, lawyers, doctors called on the students and pupils to pursue education and career at an early age for them to contribute in developing Nigeria to greater heights.

Lieutenant Ashima Azer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps said she belongs to her chosen career, which is protecting live and property, counseling people against breaking the law and enhancing security of Nigerians.

Most of the students wore clothes of the profession they want to pursue, like: soldiers, doctors, chefs, teachers, fire fighters, police and lawyers amongst others.
