Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District Simon Bako Lalong has urged Christians to renew their faith in God and embrace the power of salvation and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Speaking at an Easter service held at the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Nyak Ajikamai, Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Lalong said the work of salvation perfected through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ provides hope for the world and eternity.

He said the lessons of Easter remain ever strong and valid to restore hope, unity, peace and tolerance among citizens irrespective of their differences in background.

The Senator said the current challenges facing the nation should not deter Nigerians from demonstrating the love of Christ and making the world a better place.

He used the opportunity to pay tribute to late Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, a former spokesperson of the Nigerian Airforce who died last year and who whose family was thanking God for sustaining them in his absence.

In his Homily, Parish Priest St. Stephen Catholic Church Nyak Rev. Fr. Stanley Sansuk Reading from the Book of Luke said the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a renewal of hope for mankind whose value cannot be reduced despite the challenges the world is facing.

He said just as the disciplines of Jesus did not give up when he was crucified, but patiently waited and witnessed the fulfilment of his promise to rise from the grave, there can never be any situation to make people give up hope on God.

The clergyman commended Senator Lalong for reaching out to his constituents and also drew his attention to other challenges of infrastructure still requiring attention in the area.

The Mass also featured thanksgiving by the family of Mrs. Bibiana Longiem whose family showed appreciation for God’s mercies upon her and her household.

Senator Lalong later proceeded to Shimankar village to condole with the family of late Hon. Thomas Mutlong Naanma a Community leader and one time Councillor representing Shimankar ward, Shendam LGA.

He described the deceased as a grassroots politician and man of peace who did a lot to impact the lives of people of his community and the entire local Government.

Senator Lalong also attended the 26th edition of Bit Ngoottugut, Shendam Local Government Area where he emphasized the significance of culture and tradition in the development the nation.

He urged the community to continue to support the Government and pray for leaders as they serve.

For his service to the community and contribution to the development of the area, Senator Lalong was bestowed with the traditional title of Dangfoem of Ngootuguut.
