A group under the umbrella of Ebonyi Visionary Youth Movement Thursday begged the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to save the party in the state from total collapse ahead of 2023 general elections.
The group cited that the recent endorsement in favour of the state speaker, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru by the state governor as his successor did not go through the normal dialogue and consultation.
The group further advised governor David Umahi to follow the constitutional processes in picking a consensus candidate or allow primaries.
The State Director of the group, Barrister Joshua Itumo made this known during a press briefing held in Abakiliki on Thursday.
These processes include: consultation, dialogue and harmonization.
Barr. Itumo cited that Nwifuru’s (Speaker) endorsement by the state governor which took place last week, failed meet any of the processes.
He however beckoned on the leadership of the ruling party (APC) led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu to come to the aid of the party, stressing that the endorsement would jeopardize the chances of APC in winning the state in 2023.
“That the situation in Ebonyi state viz-a-viz choosing candidates should be through dialogue and proper consultation.
“Again, is the recent endorsement of the embattled speaker, Hon. Francis Nwifuru, it is not only wrong but condemnable and betrayal of governor Umahi’s earlier stance and is capable of generating crisis in the state and jeopardize the chances of APC producing the next governor.
“Also, we along side every well meaning Ebonyi youth, particularly APC Youth resist any form of imposition of candidate on the party, owing to the fact that it would lead to total collapse of our party in the state.
“On this note, we call on leadership of the at the national level led by Sen. Abdullahi Adamu and the state executive led by Chief Stanley Emegha and others to quickly arrest the situation in Ebonyi,” he stressed.
