Eight illegal health institutions closed down in Yola, attention shifts to Adamawa north

Adamawa state Government has sealed-off eight illegal health training institutions operating in Yola, the state capital.

Carrying out the exercise in the state capital by clamping down two colleges of health in Yola South and six in Yola North local government areas.

The exercise was carried out by the committee headed by Director of Public Health, Ministry of Health, Mr. Isaac Kadala.

Affected by the exercise include Fat-Hur-Rahman College of Health Sciences and Technology, Wuro Hausa Yola, College of Health Technology, Almashkur International Academy, Yola and School of Health Technology Kazaure, Dougirei Jimeta Yola.

Also affected are Savannah Model Collage of Health Sciences and Technology, No 15 Freetown Avenue, behind AA Law, Jimeta Yola.

Others include, Jimeta Central College of Health Science and Technology, FOMWAN, NEPA Road, Jimeta, Yola, School of Health Technology, No 138 Jambutu Street, Wuro Kuturu, Jimeta Yola, Nafan College of Health Science and Technology, Jambutu, Jimeta Yola and Bell Dome College of Health Sciences and Technology, Nyako quarters, Jimeta, Yola.

It would be recalled that the state Commissioner of Health, Chief Felix Tangwami in an interview directed the closure of these same institutions in December 2023.

Chief Tangwami said, “we are aware that some of these Institutions have no legal documents. Some were even sent packing from Gombe and other states before coming to Adamawa.”

The Commissioner said “all affected institutions remain closed until proper documentations are been followed and okey by the state government or else, they remain closed.

Speaking after the exercise, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Barrister Isuwa Misali noted that the clamp down is aimed at sanitizing health institutions in the state in line with Governor Fintiri’s agenda of improving health in Adamawa.

Misali reiterated that the ministry cannot for any reason compromise the health sector hence the carrying out of the sealing off exercise.

He maintained that, all the identified colleges for the closure did not meet the requisite requirement for establishing the training institutions.

The Permanent Secretary enumerated the important components expected to be provided by a training health institutions to include having ten permanent health professional staff, recreational centre, sports field and accommodation among others.

According to him, all the affected colleges can come forward and liaise with the ministry to perfect all necessary procedures for establishing College of Health Sciences and Technology for operational permit.

The committee after the capital, has concluded plans to shift to the northern Adamawa State.
