Entrepreneurship: Anambra LG urged to establish quality control units

The Anambra State Local Government Service Commission has directed local government councils to establish quality control units to maintain standard in their entrepreneurship scheme.
Speaking at the monthly productivity display by Anambra West, Ogbaru and Onitsha North local government councils at the Commission’s Headquarters, Awka, the chairman of the Commission, Dr Peter Egenti, said this would ensure market acceptability.
The productivity scheme is part of initiatives of the Commission to reposition the local Government system for efficient service delivery and sustainable human capital development.
Dr Egenti said the scheme aims among other things, to engender positive attitudinal change among workers, improve attendance, discourage laxity and equip workers properly with skills for life after services.
Dr. Egenti expressed satisfaction that the campaign is gradually unlocking the potential in the local government system and stimulating workers interest towards higher productivity.
He urged Local Government administration to put in place necessary measures to effectively monitor movement, activities and performance of workers to achieve the key objectives of the campaign.
Presenting their productivity charters, the Head of Administration, Anambra West council, Comrade Jeff Moudeme, said the council has gone into various ventures including rice, yam and snail farming as well as production of local gin while the head of administration, Ogbaru Local Government council, Mr. Christian Ugwumadu, said the scheme provides opportunity for cross fertilization of ideas to effectively harness the huge agricultural potential in the area.
In his presentation, the Head of Administration, Onitsha North, Mr. Emmanuel Okoro, disclosed that the council has commissioned a skill acquisition centre at Imeobi Umuezearoli and is partnering a private firm in training youths and staff of the council in tailoring.
Among the items displayed are car wash detergent, hair shampoo, scrubbing powder, body cream, fish, yam, tablet soap, custard powder, beaded slippers and air refresher.
