Professor Olatunde Babawale, Provost of Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, (ACAN), has called on all Nigerians to join hands in the fight against corruption as its consequences affect everyone.
The Provost who was responding to issues on alleged stolen national funds with the recent being N80billion by Accountant-General of the Federation, as raised by Apex News Exclusive media team said, it was unimaginable to think he can’t be caught.
He noted that, it shows how deep corruption is entrenched in Nigeria despite tireless efforts of the anti-corruption agencies.
“It shows that when they are in it, they behave like the ostrich. They think that because they have not seen anybody, nobody sees them. But their ‘bombom’ as big as anything is outside,” he posited.
According to Prof. Babawale, it is particularly touchy when one thinks that despite efforts being made to exterminate corruption, it grow wings and become an octopus. He wondered, what would have happened if the efforts being made by anti-corruption agencies are not made.
“Everyday we are changing strategies, we are changing approaches. At the ICPC now, we are partnering with MacArthur Foundation, which is funding some of the projects in that area for us. They are using our academy to explore the possibility of complementing the ongoing law and order, which we have also used to stipulate laws against corruption. Where those laws are violated we have to apprehend offenders, imposed sanctions.
“But when you think you have found all answers, you discover that somebody has changed all the questions” he lamented.
The Provost revealed that a new approach has been adopted. According to him it is called the Behavioural Change Approach. Explaining further, he said the approach will target peoples behaviour, focus on their mindset in addition to law and order approach.
