Former IGP Coomassie dies at 76
Late Coomassie
A former Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, has died at a Katsina hospital at about 6:20pm on Thursday. He was 76 years old. He was born on March 18, 1942.
Reports reaching Apex News are still sketchy about the cause of his death coming exactly two weeks after another prominent northern elder statesman, Adamu Ciroma, died on July 5 in Abuja.
He was the 9th police boss and served between 1993 and 1999, under the military governments of Generals Sani Abacha and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Coomassie was among the eldest sons of Malam Ahmadu Coomassie, an educationist and businessman who became a permanent secretary of the ministry of education in the Northern region.
