The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has commended Governor Willie Obiano for his mega urban terminal projects across Anambra State.
The commission posited that such inventions were timely and necessary for orderliness in the transport sector especially as the state government strives towards making the state a mega city.
Sector Commander of the commission in Anambra Mr. Sunday Michael Ajayi who gave the commendations on Tuesday at the state headquarters Awka, described the new Anambra State Park System as a worthy step in the right direction going by the policy of Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme provided by the Federal Road Safety Commission.
Ajayi said that driver’s safety, vehicle safety and operator’s safety were three cardinal objectives enunciated in the aforementioned policy.
He further explained that Anambra state has a very unique transport system and having a mega park system too would help decongest what he described as mushroom parks and thereby ease traffic.
The sector commander noted that Anambra was getting bigger and such development was necessary to accommodate the growing expansion and still retain the environmental standard structure as determined by the state government. He noted that the new park system was in fulfillment of having effective coordination on the activities of fleet operators located in the parks.
According to him, the key issues of reducing crashes on the roads and by extension reduction in injuries and deaths would be achieved because of the new park system and that there would also be safety managers that would ensure proper maintenance of vehicles while services rendered in the parks would be regulated to avoid sale of hard substances.
Ajayi also noted that in terms of infrastructure, the state government has been proactive in the provision of road facilities that fall within safety standards, pointing out that Anambra state is blessed with good road network.
On the Ember Months, he said the commission was conscious of the period and it had equally drawn programmes to mobilize the motoring public to have positive mindset towards the Ember Months as they were not bloodsucking months.
