Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has commended the MTN Foundation for complementing the efforts of his administration in the health sector aimed at improving healthcare delivery services.
The Governor was speaking at the commissioning of a multimillion naira worth of medical equipments donated by MTN Foundation to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTC), Gombe.
Inuwa Yahaya who was represented by his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau, said that the contribution of MTN was apt and coming at a time when numerous health challenges were confronting the people, more so that Government alone cannot cater for all the needs of the people.
The Governor commended the good gesture of MTN Foundation for complementing government’s efforts by the provision of the medical equipments as its own Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to its host community.
He also said that the state needs and deserves more of such interventions by the Federal Government, private organizations, and individuals because of the influx of people into the State from neighbouring States that have been devastated by insurgency.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adeluyi, said that the Foundation has been collaborating with the Federal and Gombe State Government in touching lives positively not only in the area of MTN services but also through provision of other social services.
Represented by the Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation, Mrs Odunayo Sanya, the Chairman said that the provision of hospital equipments at the FTH, Gombe was a testament for the power of partnership. She then thanked the federal and the state government for allowing MTN to contribute to Gombe State.
Julius Adeluyi also said that, apart from the hospital equipments, the Foundation has contributed in the area of upgrading of Primary Health Centres, launching of the Yellow Mobile Clinic, ICT Labs and solar boreholes in some local governments of the state.
He said that the equipments donated to the FTH Gombe, included a 50 bed capacity accident and emergency department with fully equipped dedicated theatre, oxygen supply, concentrators, as well as plaster room, laboratory, pharmacy and cardiac monitors.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, revealed that the supply of the equipment was at the instance of an intensive discussion with the MTN Management on how and where to undertake their CSR where the choice of Gombe was arrived at following a request by the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who was represented by the Director, Hospital Services, Federal Ministry of Health, Adebinpe Adebiyi, appreciated the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, for facilitating the donation of the hospital equipments in the FTH, Gombe by the MTN Foundation.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Yusuf Mohammed, appreciated Gombe State Government, Ministers of Health, as well as that of Communications and Digital Economy, and the MTN Foundation for assisting in the provision of the equipments.
He appealed for a City Scan Machine and more equipments for the hospital to function very well for the benefit of the North East.
