BY SUNNY A. DAVID
Anambra Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has declared his administration’s decision to place tackling security challenges facing the State as well as fixing the road infrastructures across the State on its priority list.
Prof. Soludo made the declaration while presenting a revised 2022 budget of N170bn to the Anambra State House of Assembly over the weekend.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, who reaffirmed his government’s to creating a liveable homeland for Anambra people, told the Lawmakers that the revised budget was meant to meet the verity on the ground, and also to aid his administration to succeed.
He stated that the purpose of the 2022 revised budget is to ruminate on apparent verities, challenges, and priorities of the new government and Ndi Anambra.
Prof. Soludo reflects his administration’s valiant stand on the State of the coffers. According to him, there is an intense reformation of the tax administration system to importantly increase the internally generated revenue over the coming years. In the meantime, the frightful needs of Ndi Anambra and the transformation agenda cannot wait.
According to Mr. Governor, the new government was working on a mixture of financing options, including debt that is ring-fenced to fund bankable projects and/or infrastructure with impacts on the economy, to assure productive and capable service delivery to our people while assuring fiscal continuity over the medium to longer terms.
Prof. Soludo noted that the revised appropriation bill of N170 billion has a capital expenditure accounting for 64 percent compared to the 57 percent of the existing appropriation of N142 billion.
There is a 33 percent increase in the Capital from N81 billion to N108 billion while Recurrent expenditure marginally increased by 0.79 percent from N60 billion.
Going down to specifics, he declared that his government has “declared a State of emergency on rebuilding our road infrastructure and traffic management.
“About 31 percent (N52 billion) of the total budget is mapped out for the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. His administration intends to concurrently invest in roads in most of the local governments, laying special emphasis to the urban regeneration agenda.”
“Soludo’s administration has requested the Federal Government to interfere on an emergency basis on a number of several Federal Roads in the State that have become death traps. He, with confidence, expects immediate positive action.
“According to Mr. Governor, In the event that a response from the federal government does not come soon enough, this administration may have to carry out crucial palliatives in some places, especially at Amansea; Ekwulobia- Igboukwu- Nnobi road; Ogidi; etc where the roads are literally cutting off,” he stressed.
On the security crisis in the State, the Governor was defiant. Stating that his administration has chosen to tackle the fundamental issue of security head-on and was expected that those benefitting from the bankable criminal business would cruelly fight back, and they have.”
