By Abdullahi Idris Zuru
Comparatively, it’s evident that the level of development in Kebbi State since it’s creation, couldn’t match the level achieved in its contemporaries. Although the previous administrations, both military and democratically elected, had made their modest contributions, many critical sectors of development have not been given the required priority.
A number of factors, which included inadequate funds or misplacement of priority, have been attributed to the inability to achieve the People’s expectations.
The state of infrastructural deficit, decayed and uncompleted structures might have informed the fears of some political analysts that Comrade Governor Nasir Idris’s desire and commitment to turning around the socio-economic fortunes of Kebbi State at inception may be difficult.
There is no gain saying that the structures of the government establishments, including the Government house, are not only in a state of decay and outdated but also inadequate. The state capital and major cities of the state lack motor able intra – and intercity road networks, while the health care delivery and educational facilities are not only dilapidated but also grossly inadequate.
As he settled down for the business of governance with a comprehensive development blueprint covering all sectors, the Governor also saw the need to complete the abandoned projects and rehabilitate the decayed structures based on his conviction of their value to the well-being of the people and conformity with his administration’s policy of continuity in governance.
Armed with his administration’s comprehensive blueprint covering all sectors and prioritised uncompleted projects with strategic plans for simultaneous execution.
The outdated Government House was completely overhauled, and the streets of the state capital were expanded and beautified with modern roundabout structures and solar powered streetlight. The state ultra modern Secretariat complex project abandoned for about ten years have been completed, while an ultra modern motor park identified as a model constructed in addition to the remodeling and upgrade of the palaces of the Emirs and the central mosques at the four emirates headquarters.
While similar projects, particularly township roads construction, expansion and beatification are also being replicated at the headquarters of the emirate councils.
In the same vein, multipurpose fully equipped mega schools that will provide secondary, education skills acquisition and ICT for out of school children and almajiris are also being constructed at the emirate headquarters, in addition to the construction of 400 full pledged new secondary schools and renovation of 2000 others. The agricultural sector has not only remained in the administration’s priority list but witnessed a major revolution with the introduction of solar powered irrigation pumps and distribution of free fertiliser to farmers for all year-round farming.
Already as it could be noticed, the construction of 30 inter towns and villages roads across the state are at different are at different stages of completion.
Although the giant strides achieved in all sectors of development by Comrade Governor Nasir Idris administration have adequately been given the deserved publicity, the areas being emphasised are landmark achievements that were miraculously recorded.
It is generally believed that the positive impact of the critical projects and programmes executed by Comrade Governor Nasir Idris in less than two years was apparently among the factors responsible for the massive decamping of many members of the opposition parties whose doubt on the capacity of Comrade Nasir Idris has been cleared. Other factors as critically analysed included the strong belief among the ambitious political class that their political ambitions may have been thwarted by the undisputably acceptance of Comrade Governor Nasir by the people of Kebbi State, occasion by his glaringly performance in infrastructural development and economic empowerment programmes. Another segment of the people have publically attributed their decision to his accommodating attitudes and generosity towards people regardless of political, religious, and ethnic differences.
Initially, the defection to the All Progressives Congress was in drops, but when Comrade Nasir Idris embarked on a thank you visit to the local government areas up to this week when he rounded up the visit at Birnin Kebbi local government, there was no any politician of substance that was left in any political party at all local government areas of Kebbi State.
However, at the end of a Mega Appreciation Rally independently organised by a commination of state based Non-Govermental organisations to independently organise a Mega Appreciation Rally, scheduled to hold on Wednesday, in support of Comrade Nasir Idris’s purposeful leadership that resulted to unprecedented infrastructural development of the state, the remnants in the opposition political parties may only exist in name but not in number.
It is in appreciation of the commendable decision of the Non-Govermental organisations to publicly express their satisfaction with the selfless and patriotic leadership of comrade Governor Nasir Idris administration’s in service delivery that the friends, political and business associates of Comrade Governor Idris. The well wishers included the state chairman of the APC, Abubakar kana Zuru, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Muhammad Usman Ankwe, Honourable Bello Kaoje Kogunan Gwandu, Dr Usman Tunga, Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Suru, Alhaji Umar Buro and Alhaji Faruk Musa Yaro Enabo among others supported the rally.

Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Kebbi State Governor.
