A Senator-elect and member representing the Ogoja/Yala federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has said his life is under threat.
Jarigbe is currently awaiting to be sworn in as he senator for Cross River North Senatorial District.
He said that there are visible attempts at his life, emphasising that it was clear that agents of the Cross River State government were behind the attempt to assassinate him.
It would be recalled that Jarigbe had challenged the alleged victory of Dr Stephen Odey, former SUBEB boss in the state.
The state governor allegedly backed Odey for the last Senatorial race where he was thought to have won under controversial circumstances.
The case was accelerated up to the Supreme Court which finally declared Jarigbe as the authentic candidate and winner of the byelection.
Jarigbe said: “From the information at my disposal which I will make available to security agencies, including DSS and the police, there are obvious daily threats to my life. These threats are from agents of the state government.
“During the primary election there was heavy shooting, targeted at me and my supporters. One of them, Charles Onwe was killed in the office of the commissioner for local government affairs. Another, chairman of a ward was shot at. Till now he is still in the hospital; he cannot walk again…”
Commissioner for information, Asu Okang said it was figment of Jarigbe’s imagination, adding that the government is a law-abiding one and has better things to do.
