Hon. Abdulmumuni Jibrin: Astute politician, compassionate leader at 45

No doubt, Hon. (Dr.) Abdulmumuni Jibrin, who represented Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State for a record three terms, is a politician of note having brought a lot of vibrancy to Nigeria’s House of Representatives even in a modest but large level.
He was in the Federal legislature from June 6, 2011-2015, 8 June 2015–June 2019 and 11 June 2019–November 1, 2019 before the tenure was scuttled. He was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in 2011 before defecting to the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in 2014.
In the House of Representatives, Hon. Jibrin was Chairman, House Committee on Finance with oversight on the Federal Ministry of Finance and its Parastatals, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Preparation of Revenue framework/Estimate for the Federal budgets, Sovereign Wealth Fund – SWIA, Tax Matters, Fiscal matters, Government investment in banks and Statutory Corporations and Agencies, Insurance and Insurance of Government properties and assets amongst other functions.

Hon. Jibrin, a family man

Though a Political Science scholar where he earned a PhD, Hon. Jibrin attended many world-class business schools including London Business School, Harvard Business School, International Business House, London 2009 and European Institute of Business Administration among others where he graduated and obtained various certificates. Armed with these among others, he was a vocal voice on national matters, a critic and appraiser of some government’s policies and actions. In 2015, Hon. Jibrin emerged as the House Committee on Appropriation Chairman until July 2016.
A humane and focused leader, Hon. Jibrin is now the Executive Director, Business Development, Federal Housing Authority (FHA) having been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2020.

Born on September 9, 1976 into the family of Alhaji Labaran Mohammed Jibrin and Hajiya Amina Gambo, attended Army Primary School, Janguza, Kano, 1983-1986 before moving to Command Children School, Jaji, Kaduna, 1986-1988. He had his secondary education at Science Secondary School, Abaji, Abuja from 1989-1992 and later Bwari Secondary School, Abuja from 1992-1994.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of Abuja, Nigeria in 1999, MSc in International Affairs and Diplomacy at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria in 2003 and Ph.D. in International Relations at the University of Abuja, in 2009.
He was at the London Business School in 2009, Harvard Business School, 2009-2010, International Business House, London 2009, and European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD), France in 2009 where he graduated and obtained various certificates in Senior Executive Program (SEP68 LBS), Global Economy Crisis (LBS), Negotiation, Competitive Decision and Deal Process (HBS), Program for Leadership Development (PLD9 HBS), International oil Trading (IBH London) and Telecommunications Strategy and Marketing (INSEAD).
Besides, he was at Oxford Strategic Leadership Program (OSLP) in 2016 and earned an MBA from Swiss Business School, Zurich, Switzerland, 2012-2014.
However, Hon. Jibrin began working with the Century Research and Communication Limited a media outfit and later in the construction industry. Later, he established his company, Green Forest Investment Limited in 2003 and rose to the position of General Manager. He became the Managing Director and subsequently Chairman/CEO. The company has as subsidiaries in Energy, Property Development, Investment, Agriculture, Construction, and Engineering. He was also Chairman (Nigeria) of Turkish Construction giant, TASYAPI between 2010 to 2011.
He is also a Nigeria-America and Nigeria-British Chambers of Commerce. He was Chairman, Abuja branch of Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) between 2010–2011.
In politics, Hon. Jibrin was Coordinator of Support Groups and later Member of the PDP/Obasanjo Presidential Campaign between 2002-2003. He later served as Programme Officer at the PDP Presidential Campaign Headquarters in 2007.
Hon. Jibrin has greatly impacted on the lives of the people of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency by providing numerous empowerments unimaginable. He has also provided a lot of infrastructure to the people from health facilities, potable water, electricity and housing among others.
As he said, youth empowerment among others is important as it will curb insecurity in Nigeria and provide stable source of income. And this, he is doing. Today, you are celebrated. Happy birthday.
