Chukwuka Monye, ADC presidential aspirant
By Akanji Alowolodu, Bauchi
Presidential aspirant under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) , Chukwuka Monye, has said that his ambitious to contest for the presidency was inspired by most Nigerians who are yearning for a vibrant and young president that is capable of tackling the myriad challenges facing the country.
He particularly said that he was drawn into the presidential race following the total failure of the present crop of old leaders to make positive impact in governance leading to a complete breakdown of the system.
Chukwuka Monye was speaking in at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Bauchi lamenting that successive Nigerian governments relegated the youths to the background with little budget for them despite the fact that the younger generation accounts for a larger population.
He further lamented that the education sector which was supposed to benefit the youths the more has been completely neglected and underfunded leading to incessant strike actions.
He lamented that all those who benefited from the sound and qualitative public education are the ones now killing it expressing worries that if the trend is left to continue, things will get worst.
The 43-year-old Delta State-born technocrat, who identified with the younger generation, said that his ability to create job opportunities constituted his unique selling points.
He opined that if the youths who are the largest productive population are well taken care of, the country’s economy will grow and poverty will be reduced drastically.
According to him “If you ask anybody on the street today what type of president they want, they would tell you ‘someone new, someone different and young.’ That is what you will hear”.
He added that, “One of the things that I bring to the table is that newness and freshness. I represent a generation that is not really represented in government today.”
The ADC presidential hopeful assured that one of the first things his administration will do if eventually constituted after winning the election, is to find a lasting solution to the issue of frequent strike action in the tertiary education sector.
