President Tinubu with Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris, left
By Anthony Maliki, Abuja
President Bola Tinubu has commended Comrade Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State for embracing the Federal Government’s agricultural revolution aimed at facilitating the nation’s economic diversification programme.
In a special national broadcast in commemoration of the 64th Independence anniversary on Tuesday, President Tinubu identified Governor Idris among some other state governors for commendation of their commitment to the promotion of agricultural development in their respective states.
“We are playing our part by supplying fertiliser and tractors and other farm equipment available,” the President declared.
A statement Wednesday by Abdullahi Idris Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Kebbi State Governor, noted that commendation was a clear testimony of the remarkable successes achieved in the agricultural sector of Kebbi State economy.
It is therefore evident that the distribution of free fertiliser to farmers, sales of solar powered irrigation pumps at subsidised prices, and provision of required farming inputs within the last one year has produced the desired results.
The turn around of the Kebbi State agricultural fortunes witnessed under the leadership of Comrade Idris has expectedly attracted both foreign and indigenous investors interested in establishing agro-allied processing industries in the state.
The presidential confirmation of the Governor’s commendable effort in turning around the Kebbi agricultural fortunes clearly demonstrated his commitment to the nation’s economic diversification programme.
It is expected that the president’s expression of satisfaction will eventually translate to more federal government intervention in the implementation of Kebbi State ambitions agricultural development programmes.
The presidential mention was equally a confirmation of the fact that Kebbi state, if adequately supported, has the capacity of feeding the nation through the utilisation of the abundant fertile land for both wet and dry season farming, the statement noted.
It pointed out that the land being cultivated by both small, medium and large scale farmers has the capacity of providing enough raw materials for agro-allied industries of whatever capacity.
Undoubtedly, recognising and appreciating Comrade Idris will serve as morale booster and confidence building mechanisms to the people, particularly the farming families in Kebbi State.
