The Comptroller of Immigration in Cross River State,  Emmanuel Akinrinsola has confirmed that they have summoned some Chinese nationals who are reported to have illegally invaded Effi community forests in Ikom Local Government Area and adjoining Cross River Forests Reserve.

The Chinese are also alleged  to have collected certain samples and data from the forests without the knowledge and authorisation of the community leaders.

President of Effi community,  Prince Odey Oyama who signed the petition dated  August 20, 2023 from the said community, said the Chinese were not identified, have no diplomatic status and security clearance.

Oyama alleged that they were a national security risk capable of causing a breach of the peace.

According to him, there are certain community persons who connived with the Chinese  to invade the forests.

In an exclusive interview, the Immigration boss told our reporter that they have invited all parties concerned to a meeting so that he can hear from all sides.

“We have stepped into the petition.  We have invited all concerned, including the petitioner, the Chinese and others.  They are all cooperating.  We will meet with them very soon to resolve or take necessary actions according to law,” he said.
