The Anambra State Elders Advisory Council has thrown their weight behind the embattled Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Maduagwu.
After a closed door meeting at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, a nine man committee chaired by the former Governor of the State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, was set up by the Council to resolve the issues in the interest of the State.
While speaking through Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha who stood in for the substantive Chairman, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the Council members described the impeachment of the Speaker action as too hasty as it should have been the last resort.
According to Igwe Achebe, the Council applauded the conducive atmosphere which has existed between the Executive and Legislative which they said, has enthroned rapid development of the State.
The Council, however, advised against continued attempt to change the leadership of the House, and asked them to exhaust all other means of resolving the issue before considering impeachment in the interest of the state.
