Independent Election Observers call for peaceful LG polls in Nasarawa

The Independent Election Observers under the auspices of the Forum of Election Observers of Nigeria have called for a peaceful conduct of the November 2nd Local Government election in Nasarawa State.

Dr Lazarus Nwachukwu, National President, Forum of Independent Election Observers of Nigeria and a delegation leader made the call in a pre-election press briefing on Friday in Lafia.

According to Nwachukwu, the call became necessary to enable the residents and electorates in the state to go out and cast their votes for preferred candidates of their choice.

He explained that the forum comprised of National Council of NGOs and Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria, Centre for the Promotion of Peace and Unity in Nigeria, Kwararafa Rural Development Initiative.

Others are Institute of Industrial Security and Safety of Nigeria, Citizen Right for Peace and non-violence, Good Governance, and Equal Justice Alliance among others.

“Peaceful conduct of the November 2nd chairmanship and councillorship elections is necessary as electorates prepared to support and promote democracy in line with their utmost belief in the process as the best option for good governance and service to humanity,” he said.

Nwachukwu said his team has been following political activities since it arrived in Lafia in October.

He noted that the forum has selected one town in each of the senatorial zones of Nasarawa state, Akwanga, Keffi, and Lafia to make findings preparation and peace that exists among the residents.

Nwachukwu commended security agencies for deploying adequate personnel in preparation for the conduct of the election to ensure the safety of voters.

He commended the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission for providing a level playing ground for various political parties with the opportunity to go through the necessary process, hence ready to conduct elections.
