Mohammed Jibrin Barde, PDP Governorship candidate for Gombe State

Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have elected 51 years old Alhaji Mohammed Jibrin Barde as the flag bearer of the party in the 2023 gubernatorial election in Gombe State.
Jibrin Barde emerged winner of the keenly contested governorship Primary election of the PDP on Wednesday.
Mohammed Jibrin Barde who is popularly called Danbarde, won the election with 160 votes, beating his closest rival, Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna who polled 119 votes.
While announcing the results, Gombe PDP gubernatorial primary election Returning Officer, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, said the committee had accredited 329 delegates but canceled one vote making a total 328 valid votes.
Mike Oghiadomhe a one time Deputy Governor of Edo state commended all the aspirants for their matured conduct and said he was impressed by the way all the other aspirants who lost congratulated the winner during the vote counting.
He urged them to see the victory Danbarde as a victory for all of them, as such, they must joined forces together for the success of the PDP and subsequently work together to reclaim power from the APC.
The primary election was conducted under the observation of Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) along with other officials of the commission.
51 year old Danbarde is a renowned businessman and was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Bank.
A young and vibrant politician who has created a niche for himself in the political Space of the State. He contested the Primary election of the APC in 2019 and was the runner up.
He dumped the APC on July 12th, 2021 and joined the opposition PDP where he laid strategies on how to claim the PDP Governorship ticket.
