A prominent Ginger farmer in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Yohanna Usman, has urged government at all levels to show more concern to help farmers get more profit.
He also said government should assist ginger farmers with funding as they are facing tough times.
Yohanna who is popularly called “Tiger” made the remarks in an interview with Apex News Exclusive.
The farmer who hails from Gidan Mana of the local government stressed that ginger farmers don’t get value for their money.
According to him, every farmer is unto himself and to his ability. “When the time for cultivation comes, those who have money, hire tractors and those who don’t have use manual labour. We use hoes when planting and that is usually tough. We don’t get assistance. Sometimes, we do cooperate among farmers and take turns to cultivate for one another,” he lamented.
On prices of ginger, he pointed out that every farmer fixes their prices as there is no fixed price of the produce.
As a result, Tiger told Apex News Exclusive that buyers get more profit than the farmers because ginger would be purchased at a very low price.
Besides, he noted, government has refused to join hands to cooperate more with ginger farmers leaving them to their fate.
