Kebbi farmers get 129,000 bags of fertiliser for free

As part of Kebbi State Government’s desire to boost agricultural production Governor Nasir Idris has supervised the distribution of fertiliser to farmers across the 21 local government areas of state.
Performing the ceremony in Kardi of Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area,Governor Idris said over N2.5billion was spent in procuring the fertiliser and warned against illicit deals during statewide distribution.
The Governor said “We are in rainy season when most crops need fertiliser to boost their yieads and farmers need assistance to have a bumper harvest. This occasion is a fulfilment of some of my campaign promises as well as return the State to its lost glory as one of the food baskets of the country.”
While warning Council Chairmen and political office holders to be steadfast in discharging their responsibilities, he stressed that defaulters would face the full wrath of the law.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Sani Yeldu thanked the governor for supporting the farmers with fertilisers describing the gesture as a step towards achieving food security in the state and the nation at large.
Giving the break down on the sharing formula, he said, the distribution would be divided into two categories, as 10 local government areas would get 96,000 bags while the remaining 11local governments would receive 60,000 bags.
