Kebbi fixes 31st August for local government polls

The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) has fixed 31st of August 2024 for the conduct of the state’s local government elections to end the reigns of Sole Administrators currently running their affairs.

The commissioner in charge of information and communication, Muhammadu Kaura Dan Hakimi, while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi after the meeting of KESIEC executives held with stakeholders said the representatives of 18 political parties billed to participate in the election also participated in the meeting being central actors of the exercise.

He further stated that the date for the election to fill the vacancies of local government chairmen and councilors was fixed for 31 of August after deliberating with the stakeholders and representatives of political parties in the state.

He said “kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) in discharging the powers comferred on it by the relevant laws, wishes to fix the conduct of the local government election twelve weeks away from today”.

He added that nomination forms, contacts and all other relevant documents in relation with the election were to be made available through the secreteriat of the commission in Birnin Kebbi to enable political parties, stakeholders and the general public commence necessary preparation for the election.

“The commission, therefore, solicits for the support and co-operation of stakeholders and general public for the conduct of free, fair, credible and acceptable local government election in the state”, he said.
