Kebbi weds off 300 couple in second mass wedding at instance of NANAS foundation

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has presided over the mass wedding of three hundred couples at the instance of NANAS Foundation, a pet project of his wife, Nafisa Nasir Idris, after the payment of N180,000 as dowry for each couple after successful medical screening.

The Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, represented by the Magajin Garin Gwandu, Aminullah Umar, served as the Waliy (Guardian) to the brides who gave them out in marriage, while the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, stood in for the grooms.

Governor Nasir Idris commended his wife, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, for organizing the mass wedding under her pet project, NANAS Foundation, sponsored by the government on his approval, revealing that broader mass marriage would be held next year as part of social responsibility of the administration.

Sets of room furniture, including beds and beddings, household utensils were provided to each couple by the government free.

In addition, the wife of the governor donated twenty thousand naira to each husband and wife, totalling N12 million, with different donation of irrigation pumps by the member, House of Representatives, Suru/Bagudo Constituency, Bello Dallatun Ka’oje, to the grooms for agricultural purposes.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, gave each couple fifty thousand naira; thirty thousand for the groom and twenty thousand for the bride, amounting to N15 million.

Islamic Clerics who solemnised the marriage were the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Birnin Kebbi, Sheikh Mukhtar Abdullahi, Walin Gwandu, Mallam Ahmad S/Fawa, the Imam of Jokolo Mosque and Mallam Muhammadu Yahaya, the Imam of Wala Jumu’a Mosque, Birnin Kebbi.

Scholars who delivered sermons were Professor Mansur Isah Yelwa, Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, Sheikh Abdurrahman Isa Jega, and Mallam Ahmad Tijjani, admonishing the couples to be persevering, show love for one another, remain loyal to marriage Institution, uphold trust, justice and sincerety.
