EX Super Eagles Garba Lawal
Former Super Eagles winger Garba Lawal has stated that the duo of captain John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses must be at their best for the team to excel at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
Mikel and Moses were in inspiring form for the Super Eagles in the qualifiers helping the team to ward off the challenge of African heavyweights, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Desert Foxes of Algeria to secure a sixth World Cup ticket.
The duo struggled to make much impact for the Super Eagles in their last two friendlies against England and Czech Republic which they lost 2-1 and 1-0 respectively.
Lawal, who was part of Nigeria’s squad to the 1998 World Cup in France however reckoned that the two players must up their performance in Russia.
“Mikel and Moses did extremely well in the qualifiers and they will be crucial to whatever the team will achieve in Russia,” Lawal told CSN.
“I think they struggled a bit against Czech Republic and England, but they have enough time to hit top form before the first game against Croatia.
“If they hit top form again, I think the Super Eagles will be tough to beat for any team at the World Cup.”
Gernot Rohr’s men will face Croatia in their first Group D game on June 16 at the Kaliningrad Stadium.(Complete Sports)
