Man bags 6 months imprisonment for battery theft

A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old man, Mohammed Umar, to six months imprisonment for stealing a vehicle battery.
The judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, however, gave ‎Umar an option to pay N20, 000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.‎
Umar of Dantata Estate, Kubwa, Abuja, was convicted on charges bordering on criminal trespass and theft.‎ He had admitted committing the offences.
The prosecutor, John Okpa, had told the court that ‎one Charles Kelvin of tipper garage, Kubwa, reported the matter ‎at the Kubwa Police Station on August 2.
He said that Umar on July 14 criminally trespassed into a workshop at the tipper garage and stole the complainant’s vehicle battery valued at N25, 000‎.
Okpa said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
