Man bags 6 months imprisonment for battery theft
A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old man, Mohammed Umar, to six months imprisonment for stealing a vehicle battery.
The judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, however, gave Umar an option to pay N20, 000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Umar of Dantata Estate, Kubwa, Abuja, was convicted on charges bordering on criminal trespass and theft. He had admitted committing the offences.
The prosecutor, John Okpa, had told the court that one Charles Kelvin of tipper garage, Kubwa, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on August 2.
He said that Umar on July 14 criminally trespassed into a workshop at the tipper garage and stole the complainant’s vehicle battery valued at N25, 000.
Okpa said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
