Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, one of the leading Presidential Aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has hailed the Nigerian Workers as resilient even in the face of unfriendly labour policies of the present administration.
Ohuabunwa in a message to Nigerian workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, noted that Nigerian workers have sacrificed more than any other group to keep Nigeria going.
“In spite of many unfriendly and anti labour policies especially in the last seven years of the present administration, the Nigerian worker has held on and continued to make huge sacrifices for the nation” the presidential Aspirant further noted.
Ohuabunwa, who is one if the 15 Aspirants cleared to vie for the sole presidential ticket of the PDP for the 2023 general elections, decried the attitude of the present administration towards the nation’s workforce.
He lamented that industrial actions meant nothing to the government as Nigerian public universities remain shut for more than three months.
He wondered why the present administration finds it difficult to keep to the terms of agreement reached with workers, noting the present government lacked empathy and understanding of the plight of workers.
He further lamented the unfortunate situation where over 71 per cent of Nigerians are living below the poverty line while over 53 per cent of the population were unemployed.
According to him, “even a larger chunk of the employed population are either under employed or are grossly underpaid”.
He blamed to unenviable situation the Nigerian worker found himself to lack of effective leadership and promised to change to narrative for Nigerians if he gets the opportunity to govern the country.
Ohuabunwa assured Nigerians that he is more than prepared to offer effective and efficient leadership to turn the fortune of the country from being the poverty capital of the world to a nation that works for all.
“My background and 33 years experience in the private sector especially as President of Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) among other advisory roles have prepared me to offer Nigeria the leadership that will propel the country into a first world nation”, he further noted.
Ohuabunwa urged Nigerians to keep hope alive and join him in the task of rescuing Nigeria from the near abyss that the present administration has plunged the country.
