Nasarawa State Government said it committed to developing the tourism sector and promoting the hospitality industry in the state for economic growth.

Mr Ibrahim Angbolo, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism said this while receiving the Nasarawa State Hotel Owners Association on a courtesy call in Lafia.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment and effort under the leadership of Gov Abdullahi Sule toward developing the tourism sector.

Angbolo said that the government had acknowledged the critical role the tourism sector and hospitality industry play in the growing economy through job creation and patronage from holiday revelers and tourists alike.

He said the government of Gov Abdullahi Sule, having prioritised the security of lives and property had created business enabling environment for hoteliers to operate their businesses without fear of molestation.

Angbolo, however, warned against undermining the security measures and efforts of the present administration by using hotels as hideouts for criminal elements and the enemy of the state to perpetuate their unwholesome acts.

“The hospitality industry is a critical sector that provides employment opportunities and contributes significantly to our Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“We recognise the importance of partnering with stakeholders like you to develop and grow the sector, thereby boosting our economies,” he said.

The Commissioner urged the Association to prevail on its members to fulfill their tax obligations by paying their outstanding tax to the state government, and redouble effort to henceforth pay as and when due.

Paulinus Eze, Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Association, who led the delegation said the Association was in the ministry to seek robust partnership with the state government to boost the sector.

In a separate remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Yusuf Musa, among other stakeholders underscored the need for mutual understanding and cooperation among members to achieve their objectives.
