Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has applauded the sustained efforts of the Nigerian Army in its fight against terrorism, insurgency and other security threats in the country.
Sule gave the commendation during the 2024 West African Social Activities of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Special Forces command in the Doma, the headquarters of Doma Local Government Area of the state.
Sule, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe at the event, thanked the Army for maintaining its annual social event, WASA, which is aimed at bringing together officers and their families, to strengthen the existing bonds among different ethnic groups in the military.
The governor, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, explained that the occasion was an avenue for officers and soldiers to mingle, revisit their traditions and cultures, adding that it was a pointer to the resolve and determination of the Nigerian Army to create an avenue to socialize with fellow soldiers and families.
His words, “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I know that the 4 Special Forces is a specialized component of the Nigerian Army which is saddled with the responsibility of airborne operations, counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism, foreign internal defense, and unconventional warfare, amongst others.
“This is why I consider this event significant as it affords us the opportunity to appraise the role of security agencies in the maintenance of law and order in the country, particularly the Nigerian Army.
“It is important to acknowledge the participation of the Nigerian Army in peacekeeping missions across the globe, leading to victories which are already recorded and documented.
“This is not unconnected to the high level of discipline, resilience, and professional services exhibited by our great men during their operations. Your contributions in this direction will continue to remain evergreen in the minds of the Nigerian people.”
Suleiman, however, reiterated his administration’s commitment to continue to give maximum support to the Nigerian Army to successfully execute all of its operations in the state.
Earlier, the Commander of the 4 Special Forces command, Doma, Major General Hillary Nzan, stated that WASA was created to take officers and soldiers away from their routine regimental life to an atmosphere where they can unwind and relax freely with one another and civilians.
While promising to sustain the fight against all forms of crime within the jurisdiction of the command, he reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to continue to remain responsive to the task of defending the country’s territorial integrity.
Our correspondent, therefore, reports that highpoint of the event were the presentation of awards of excellence to six officers and soldiers including five males and one female in their various fields, by the command.
The event also featured tug of war, dance competitions among ethnic groups such as Yoruba, Eggon, Fulani, Igbo, Gwari, Gwandara, Koro and Mada, among other exciting activities.
