Nasarawa youth protests against relocation of NCDC from Nasarawa to Niger

The Nasarawa State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has protested against the relocation of the headquarters of the North-Central Development Commission (NSCDC), from Nasarawa state to Niger state.
Our correspondent had reported that President Bola Tinubu had signed into law the bill establishing NCDC.
Our correspondent also reports that a bill seeking the establishment of North Central Development Commission (NCDC), was sponsored by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, PDP, Benue South and co- sponsored by Senator Sani Musa, APC, Niger East scaled second reading February 2024.
According to Moro, over the past years, the North Central Zone of Nigeria has been devastated and left in bollix by the noxious antics of terrorists, incide.
Our correspondent further reports that the North Central Zone comprises the following geopolitical States of the Federation; Kogi, Niger, Benue, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Commerade Solomon John, the state’s council chairman alongside his Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi-Attama made the position known while briefing journalists on the development in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital at the weekend.
Commerade John who expressed strong disapproval of the NCDC amendment bill, urged the National Assembly to consider their decision in the interest of peace, adding that the move if careful measures and consideration are not taken to address the injustice melted on Nasarawa state might ignites unintended consequences that could undermine peace and stability in the country.
His words, “As the umbrella body for youth organizations in Nigeria, the NSCDC plays an important function in promoting peace, unity, and tolerance among young people.”
He, however, applauded Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi Sule and the youth assembly for their doggedness in ensuring that the actualize their dream in the pursuiant of the NCDC to be relocated to Nasarawa state.
While appreciating the National Assembly particularly member representing Akwanga , Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon federal constituency, Jeremiah Umaru for the sponsorship of the bill, said the efforts put in place to the actualisation of the long time dream ought to be jeopardize or throw into unnecessary debate on the order of just mere difference or political squabbles.
“The Nasarawa state chapter’s stance on the NCDC amendment bill therefore, reflects our commitment to advocating for policies that prioritise the well-being and interests of Nigerian youth with emphasis on the North-Central zone,” he agitated.
According to him, the wisdom to siting the commission’s headquarters in the city of Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital is the most convenient owing to the facts that Nasarawa state shares borders in the true sense with more numbers of states of the North Central zones like Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
“The proximity of Nasarawa state to all others states in the North Central Region is a pointer that Nasarawa state would serve as a unifying and rallying point with easy accessibility,” he concluded.
Commerade John, used the opportunity to call on both members of the National Assembly and House of representative who are from Nasarawa state to rise to the occasion of ensuring that their voices at this material time ought to be pronounced and heard very loud, urging them that they must not stop until the amendment bill is reversed to the status quo.
He added that they could not be trading developments on the alter of parochial sentiments without resources to the interest of the general good.
