National Directorate of Employment trains 100 youths in farming skills in Adamawa

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has begun the training of 100 youths in farming skills through its Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) in Adamawa.

The Director-General of the NDE, Abubakar Fikpo, said this during the inauguration of the three months training exercise on Wednesday in Yola.

He said the programme was designed to create jobs, enhance rural employment promotion programme and wealth creation as well as encourage agricultural development.

Represented by Ibrahim Faisal, NDE’s Coordinator in Adamawa, Fikpo urged the beneficiaries to participate actively in the training exercise to enable them to learn trades and become self-reliant.

“Thousands of youth are graduating annually and white-collar jobs are no longer available, hence the need for you to take advantage of the training to be self-reliant and job creators in your respective communities,” he said.

In his remarks, Dr Nbata Michael, Director Rural Employment Department of the Agency, said that resettlement packages would be provided to the graduates of the programme to enable them to set up their businesses.

Michael, represented by Mr Faruk Faruk, Senior Rural Employment Promotion, NDE Headquarters, urged the  beneficiaries to ensure prompt repayment of the loan to enhance participation in the programme.

Also, Zainab Audu, Head of Department (HOD), Rural Employment Promotion Department, NDE Adamawa, said that the Agency would provide N100,000 as loans to 38 graduates of the training programme.

She said that 100 youths under current the training exercise would be exposed to perishable, horticulture, poultry production and animal husbandry.

Jagla Takana, one of the beneficiaries, commended the gesture and pledged to fully participate to enable him learn learn trade and engage in productive activities. (NAN)
