Nigerian Navy Ship Victory receives new Commander, bids farewell to Rotimi Oderemi

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory officially bid farewell to its outgoing Commander, Commodore Rotimi David Oderemi, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 and welcomed new Commander, Commodore Ajomabi Oride.

The farewell events commenced on January 31 with a formal handing-over ceremony, including the exchange of the unit flag at the Base Conference Room, witnessed by service commanders.

A key highlight was the farewell parade at the NNS Victory parade ground, where Commodore Oderemi inspected the Guard and Divisions formed by officers and ratings of the base. In his address, he expressed gratitude for a successful tenure, thanking officers, ratings, civilian staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Cross River State government for their support.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, senior military officers, and commanders of various units.

The ceremony concluded with a reception at the Eastern Naval Command Officers’ Mess in Calabar.

Commodore  Oride pledged to sustain fight against maritime crimes in its area of jurisdiction and sustain the feats made by his predecessor.

He said his team will consolidate on securing vital economic assets of the nation, and will contain maritime and other socioeconomic crimes in the waterways.

He assured that the NNS Victory will continue to contribute to growth and development of the nation’s economy.

Oride is the 27th commander NNS Victory.

Outgoing NNS Victory Commander expressed gratitude for a successful tenure.

He thanked officers, ratings, civilian staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Cross River State government for their support.

Oderemi said his tenure succeeded in ridding the Calabar Channel of piracy smuggling, cultists, militancy and illegal crude oil bunkering.

He said this has brought relative peace and easy movement of goods and services through the Calabar waterways.

He said these achievements were made inspite of obvious challenges.

“The result of all this is that people can now do their legal business in peace.

“To other security agencies, I want you to  extended to my successor the synergy we had during my tour of duty here to my successor in his tour of duty here at NNS Victory.”
