The Minister of Women Affair, Mrs Pauline Tallen has called on well meaning Nigerians to support the widows, particularly wives of the fallen heroes.

Mrs Tallen made this call in Abuja at the occasion of empowerment for widows, orphans and ex-servicemen by Nigerian Legion Mass Transit Scheme Limited.

She emphasized that, widows are very special to God, and whoever supports the widow has touched the heart of God.

“I call on all well meaning Nigerians to remember the widows especially wives of our fallen heroes. They have families, children to cater for, left behind by the bread winners, their husbands. So, the more we support them, the more we get God’s blessings especially in this month of Ramadan”, the minister stated.

She assured the widows and the vulnerable that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, through Ministry of Women Affairs and other platforms created, will never leave them to their plight.

Speaking earlier, Col. Micah Gayya (rtd), Chairman Nigerian Legion Mass Transit Scheme Limited said the empowerment gesture has become annual routine to support widows of the fallen heroes.
He pointed out that the mass transit scheme of the Nigerian Legion is like a window through which the widows of the fallen heroes, their orphans and members of Nigerian Legion who are too old to fend for themselves, get empowered, in order to progress and improvement in their lives.

He reiterated that the travails of wives of fallen heroes are better imagine, adding that, it is near impossible for most of them to make a three square meal for their children. For many also, Gayya added that the task of sending their kids/ward to school has become most herculean.

“That is the idea behind what we are going. To reduce or take off this burden of home management off their shoulders. Since the advent of this organization four years ago, this has been our major preoccupation. This time around we are so lucky. We are fully supported by interested parties. We thank them for their support”, Gayya said.

For Mrs Veronica Gift Aluko, National President, Military Widows Association of Nigeria, MIWA, the empowerment is a major milestone and a gigantic step in the lives of MIWA members. She stated that by this kind gesture, Nigerian Legion Mass Transit Scheme Limited has embraced and wipe away the tears of the widows. She said MIWA is very grateful for the gesture.
The empowerment items include, sowing machines, grinding engines and different kinds of food items.
