NNL: Insurance FC secure home win against Joy Cometh FC


A brace by Muywinwa Oritseweyinmi of Insurance Football Club of Benin ensured the home team were not humiliated by visiting Joy Cometh FC of Lagos on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match day two fixture in the 2020/2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) saw Insurance FC winning 2-1.

Insurance FC who were playing their first league game in front of their fans and Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu at the remodelled Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium were stunned by Jerry Onowo.

NAN reports that while both teams played an entertaining match to the delight of their fans, Insurance were however unlucky not to have won with a wide margin.

At the resumption of play in the second half, Insurance played a more purposeful game in a bid to cancel the 45th minute goal they conceded.

Oritseweyinwa, who was arguably the star of the match, equalised for the home team in the 68th minute and added another goal in the 88th minute.

Insurance FC now have three points from a game, while Joy Cometh FC are also with three points but from two matches played, having defeated Holy Arrows in their first match last weekend.

NAN reports that Insurance FC’s next match will be away to Crown FC of Ogbomosho on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Insurance FC’s Technical Manager, Benard Ogbe, has promised to improve on the areas where his team are deficient.

Ogbe, who bemoaned the many goalscoring chances they missed, commended the players for securing the maximum three points at stake.
