North East Group commends President Tinubu for reappointment of Alkali MD/CEO of North-East Development Commission

The North East Elders and Youth Peoples Forum  (NEEYPF) has commended President Bola Tinubu for the reappointment of Goni Ibrahim Alkali  as Managing Director and Chief Executive of the North East Development Commission (NEDC). 

Chairman  of the Forum, Alhaji Salisu  Magaji stated this on Wednesday in Bauchi when he addressed a press conference. 

He said that with the reappointment of Alkali as MD/CEO of NEDC, the President has proven himself as a master strategist and a true Nigerian patriot whose interest is to build a Nigeria that works for all. 

Magaji said that, “The caliber of people just appointed by Mr. President especially quintessential leader who had proven himself like Goni Alkali has proven what most of us already know about his ability to spot talent and reward hardwork.” 

He added that, “We, members of our Forum in the entire North East are happy that The President found our leader, mentor and brother, man of people, workaholic, patriot Goni Alkali worthy of appointment as the Managing Director NEDC.” 

According to him, “Goni Alkali has over the years, proven himself to be a realiable  leader who cares about the welfare and wellbeing of the North east and Nigerians across the region and beyond.

“We are confident and assured   Mr. President, Vice President Kashim Shettima that North East , Nigerians will benefit immensely from his wealth of experience, competence and commitment to national development,” he added.

Magaji further said that, “We are also confident that with calibre of technocracts like Goni Alkali, who work tirelessly  to improve the well being of the citizenry Mr President will leave a legacy projects in the North East and Nigeria.”

While congratulating the reappointed MD/CEO, Magaji said that Goni Alkali as an achiever, will continue to give examplary leadership that will genuinely rebuild the North East region and beyond and will justify the confidence reposed on him through completion and execution of more viable projects that will redevelop the region.

He then assured Goni Alkali of continued support of all stake holders in the region for him to succeed.

He then appealed to Nigerians, to support the Federal government initiatives to transform the country and  to continue to maintain the peace and be law abiding because the country belongs to “all of us and we most not do anything to destroy it.”

Recall that, Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, received President  Tinubu’s request to screen and confirm the re-appointment of Alkali as Managing Director/CEO of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) and 10 others. 

President Tinubu is also seeking the confirmation of members and Executive Management of the Board of the NEDC including: General Paul Tarfa, Chairman  (North East, Adamawa state); Hon Gambo Maikyau member (North East Taraba); Abdullahi Abbas member (North West Kano); Steven Ondora, Member (North Central, Benue) and Chief Mutiu Lawal Areh, Member (South West, Lagos). 

Others are: Samuel Ifeanyi  Onuigbo Member (South East Abia); Frank Achinike Owo Member (South South h Rivers); Mohamed Goni Alkali  (Managing Director North  East Borno)  Re-appointment; Musa Yashi  Executive Director Humanitarian Affairs (North East, Bauchi); Ahmed Abdulsalam Yahaya, Executive Director operations, (North East Gombe) and Dr Abubakar Garba Ileah, Executive Director Admin and Finance, (North East Yobe )

The president’s request was contained in a letter read during Wednesday plenary by the President t of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

According to him, the request  for confirmation and  appointment of members of the governing board of the north east development commission is In accordance with section  5 sub section b , of the North East Development Commission Establishment act 2017.

President Tinubu added that two representatives from the ministry of finance , budget and National planning will complete the membership of the Board as stipulated by the Act.
