Desperate attitude and intolerance by members of Nigerian elite have been identified as the major causes of political crises and instability in the country.
A former Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe made this observation during the 2018 Press Week and Award Ceremony of the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) in Awka.
Chief Obidigwe also made a case for objectivity and neutrality by journalist in their professions in order not to heat up the polity.
He called on NUJ to put machinery in motion to regulate the activities of some of its members who sometimes use the social media negatively, pointing out that unrestrained abuse of the online media was capable of creating avoidable panic, bitterness and disunity in the society.
Chief Obidigwe who is the House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance for Anambra East and West Federal Constituency equally observed that the Nigerian media have a crucial role to play in the success or otherwise of the 2019 general elections.
The former Political Adviser however gave kudos to the Anambra Council of the NUJ for what he described as the mutually beneficial relationship between its members and the Obiano administration.
Chief Obidigwe was the Chairman of this year’s Press Week and Award Ceremony of the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
