The Anambra State Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Barrister Ifeatu Obiokoye, has tasked the incoming 7th State House of Assembly on review of laws of the state.
According to him, “There are areas concerning the judiciary that we really need to look at, some of the laws that require reformation. Certain courts need to be put in place like the traffic courts and some other miscellaneous offences courts that are not in place.
“These things are also going to help in revenue drive and there is need for the assembly to begin to look into all that.”
The Governor’s aide who spoke with our correspondent in Awka concerning expectations of the 7th Anambra State House of Assembly, explained that there was an urgent need for a general revision of the laws of Anambra state in many regards as the laws have not been reviewed for an upwards of about 50 years now.
The former House of Assembly member of the old Anambra State said the legislators really need to revisit the laws of the state to bring them in tune with current realities in the federation, stating that there was need also for the members to be more proactive in the area of strict development.
Barrister Obiokoye who was a one-time National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) noted that the lawmakers should be more resourceful and assiduous in their oversight duties to ensure that contractors handling projects in Anambra do not shortchange the state government.
He was however of the view that oversight functions do not imply that lawmakers would be in conflict with the executive but stressed that such were veritable platforms to complement the efforts of the state government in their respective constituencies.
Barrister Obiokoye said that the outgoing 6th legislature enjoyed robust collaboration and cooperation with the executive arm despite failed impeachment attempts  on the Speaker.
The cordial relations between both arms of government according to him manifested in the developmental strides of Governor Willie Obiano’s pragmatic approach to governance in Anambra State.
The special adviser therefore advocated for a legislature that would consolidate on the gains of the 6th assembly especially as it relates to the replication of the cordiality and synergy of the outgoing assembly on the incoming state assembly devoid of rancour and to sustain the tempo of human and Infrastructural development in Anambra State.
