Last Wednesday, some daredevil gunmen stormed the Barkin Ladi local Government Area high court in Plateau State and escaped with some prisoners who were to appear before the court.
The gunmen attacked the court with sporadic gunshots and aided the escape of six inmates out of ten brought from Jos prison for trial.
However, troops of Operation Safe Haven, (OPSH) the security outfit put in place to maintain law and order deployed at Rarin-Shou Village in the area have re-arrested one of the fleeing suspects, Mohammed Ibrahim.
The Media Officer of OPSH, Major Ibrahim Shitu said in a statement that the arrest followed a manhunt operation launched by OPSH to rearrest the escapees.
He said “the rearrested criminal has since been handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service Plateau State Command. Efforts are ongoing to rearrest the remaining ones” and called on the villagers to volunteer any useful information on any of the escaped inmates to the outfit.
It was revealed that the inmates were brought in a bullion van, escorted by four armed staff of correctional service and at the court premises, and in the process of unhandcuffing them, with six freed, the attackers started shooting.
“The attackers were able to aid the escape of the freed six without the handcuff while four with the handcuff were apprehended by troop of OPSH Sector 4 and taken to police Divisional Headquarters, Barkin Ladi”, a source hinted.
At that point, a combined search was launched by operatives from the police, OPSH, NSCDC and immigration.
The charge shot listed those for trail as Umaru Adamu with 2 others, Bashiru Mohammed with 3 others, Musa Mohammed with 2 others, and Abdul Haruna with 1 other. All of them are facing trial for culpable homicide.
It was gathered with Bashiru Mohammed, who was limping as a result of gun shot wounds he sustained during operation and was alleged to have murder about 20 people is said to be the target of the attackers as he was backed by them and taken away on a motorcycle.
Umaru Adamu with 4 others were able to excape, while Musa Mohammed, Abdul Haruna with two other inmates that were unable to escape including the relations of those that escaped were taken to police station while the search continues.
