By Sunny A. David, Awka
A group of thugs attacked Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade) workers in Onitsha, near the Ogbogwu Drug Market, damaging their vehicle and injuring the staff.
The attack allegedly stemmed from the earlier arrest of an environmental offender and a tramadol peddler.
According to one injured worker, their vehicle was blocked by a tricycle, believed to have been orchestrated by a relative of the arrested individuals.
The ensuing assault involved a mob from the Ogbogwu area, including Keke operators and others.
The attackers vandalized the Ocha Brigade vehicle, destroying items including an Android phone, uniforms, caps, and the vehicle’s battery.
The workers sustained various injuries from the severe beating. A security guard intervened, preventing the vehicle from being set ablaze.
Navy officers and Ocha Brigade security personnel eventually arrived to rescue the injured workers.
Onitsha Ocha Brigade Unit Coordinator, Mr. Ejike Odife, confirmed the incident and vowed to prosecute those responsible.
