The Enugu State Police Command, on Wednesday, advised its officers and men to serve the public with human face in the discharge of their duties.
SP Ebere Amaraizu, the Command’s spokesman gave the advice in a lecture he delivered during an engagement with trainees of the Command’s Quick Intervention Unit.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trainees were drawn from various divisions and formations of the command.
The lecture was themed: “Fight Impression Matters’’.
Amaraizu stressed the need for police personnel to gain the confidence and mutual trust of members of the public, adding that they were essential for effective partnership and collaboration in fighting crime.
According to him, there is the need for police personnel to understand that police are for the people and the people for the police.
“So, the police needs to work well with the people by shunning those negative tendencies that brews disharmony between the police and its publics.
“Police personnel must understand people’s concept, have good perceptions about people. You must also be a good human manager and regard members of the public as partners in progress.
“Nigerians expect a lot from the police such as being credible, functional, quality as well as improved service delivery, trustworthy among others.
“So, you can now see that a lot is required hence the need to live above board in our various assigned responsibilities and policing with human face, passion and courtesy,’’ he said.
Amaraizu reminded them that their good conduct would definitely attract partnership to the entire command leading to sharing of intelligence information, safety and security of the environment.
According to him, we must be seen to be discharging our duties professionally devoid of any public relations issues. (NAN)
