Police in Benue kill 7 armed robbers dressed in police, army uniforms

The Police in Benue State said it gunned down seven deadly armed robbers in a gun duel operating along Makurdi-Lafia highway dressed in police and army uniforms.
The Police spokesperson in the state, Catherine Anene, Friday said that following reports about armed robbery incidents and the attack of a police check point on June 4, 2020 at Lafia-Makurdi road that led to the death of Inspector Boniface Odeh and the loss of an AK-47 rifle, a team of police officers were detailed to trail the armed robbers terrorising commuters on the road.
She said while on the trail, information was received on June 12, 2020 at about 4:40pm that armed robbers were operating at the same road.
She added that the team of police officers swiftly moved to the scene and met the hoodlums dressed in military camouflage and police uniforms.
The spokesperson noted that the suspects engaged the police in a gun duel that lasted for about 20 minutes.
According to her, seven of the armed robbers sustained various degrees of bullet wounds and were rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital were they eventually died and their corpses have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
