Police launch manhunt for kidnappers of Anambra lawmaker, Okey Di Okay

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of Hon. Dr. Okechukwu Okoye, a Lawmaker representing Aguata Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly.
Hon. Dr. Okoye, an indigene of Isuofia, the same Community as Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, was kidnapped in Aguata on Sunday.
DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, who confirmed the kidnap while speaking with journalists, said the Lawmaker’s black Sienna bus, which he was driving before the incident, had been recovered.
He said the Command had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers with the aim of rescuing him.
Hon. Dr Okechukwu Okoye was kidnapped this evening, Sunday, 15th May, 2022.
Popularly called ‘Okey Di Okay’, Hon. Dr. Okoye represents Aguata I in the State House of Assembly, and is from Isuofia, the hometown of Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Information.
It is not known if Hon. Dr. Okoye was targeted, or if this was a random attack.
A member of the State House of Assembly, and Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Pete Ibida told our correspondent that the kidnap of Hon. Dr. Okoye has not been confirmed by the House.
“I only read of it in the news the same way that you did. We have no role to play in the kidnap. We have not discussed it at the House of Assembly level.”
