Police vow to unmask, eliminate rampaging gunmen from Anambra

Anambra State Police Command on Monday said they have intensified intelligence gathering across the State targeted at unmasking gunmen and other criminal elements as well as eliminate all kinds of insecurity.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng gave the assurance in a press conference at the Command’s Headquarters, vowed to make the State uncomfortable for those terrorising the State. 

Mr. Echeng revealed that some arrests have been made, while some discovered camps have been destroyed.

The Police Commissioner said, “We’re doing everything possible to stop crimes and criminalities in Anambra. We’re ever ready to reclaim the State, secure the lives and properties. 

“We will make the State uncomfortable to people terrorising the State. We have arrested some of them. We have attacked and destroyed some of their camps. We discovered that they don’t actually dwell there but used it for ritual and other purposes.

“We are appealing to every member of the society to volunteer intelligence information that will help us to track those people. There is nowhere the locals wouldn’t know their identities. Some of them are their brothers and relatives. 

“We are actually confronted by challenges of conspiracy of silence from the society,” he added.

Mr. Echeng condemned the beheading of lawmaker member representing Aguata II State Constituency, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye and his aide, Mr. Cyril Chiegboka, assuring that the Command would not rest on its oars until the hoodlums were apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.

He however dismissed the reports that the abductors of the deceased lawmaker and his aide, demanded and received ransom from their families before murdering them.

“Anambra State Police Command appreciate the unequivocal stand of the Governor and the State House of Assembly on improving security and enhancing safety of the general populace. 

“No stone will be left unturned until purveyors of violence are totally eradicated to make Anambra State safe for growth and development,” the Police Commissioner assured.
