Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has called on stakeholders to ensure that the 2019 elections are free and fair.
He was speaking at the one-day pre-election consultative meeting with key stakeholders from South-East Geo-Political Zone jointly organized by the Anambra State Government and the United Nations.
The event which held at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia attracted traditional rulers, civil society organizations, the media, PGs of town unions, political parties, the clergy and other stakeholders.
The Governor called on Ndi Anambra to shun Electoral violence in the coming elections and to remember to collect their PVCs. He told the audience that the Presidency has also assured of free, fair and credible elections, a point that was re-echoed by Service Commanders at the event.
“Elections should never be seen as a ‘do or die’ affair, those who go into electoral contests should know that only one person will win. In a free and fair contest, whoever loses should accept defeat and congratulate the winner. I don’t believe what people say that power belongs to the people. Power belongs to God. In Anambra we say ‘Chinaemeze’, yes, It’s only God that ordains leaders,” Governor Obiano said.
Continuing, he advised those planning to rig the forthcoming elections to prepare to meet the wrath of the people.
