By Ahmad A. Usman, Kafanchan

Senator Sunday Marshal Katung representing Kaduna South Senatorial District has distributed a trailer load of bags of rice to vulnerable Muslims in his Constituency as palliatives for the Holy month of Ramadan.

Giving breakdown of the palliative, chairman of the distribution committee, Danlami Shuaibu Zango, who gave out the items on behalf of Katung in Zonkwa, said the relief items include 50 bags of 50kg, 200 bags of 25kg and 700 bags of 10 kg of rice.

Shu’aibu said the items will be distributed based on the population of the Muslim community in each of the eight Local Government Areas that make up the zone.

According to him, the food relief was part of the senator’s efforts to assist the people in the sacred month and elevate the conditions of the less privileged.

He explained that proper arrangements had been put in place to ensure the palliatives get to those who needed them most.

“We have put every measure in place to guard against diversion of these items.

“We have set up local government sub committees who will go round to ensure that these items reach the most vulnerable members of our Muslim communities,” he stated.

Receiving the allocation for Kachia Local Government Area, Malam Adamu Ladduga, described the gesture as timely, considering the current economic hardship faced by the people.

Ladduga called on other well meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the lawmaker in providing succour to vulnerable members of society.

“Sen. Katung did not abandon his people, particularly when they needed him the most. I urge other politicians to emulate him in extending helping hands to their people.” he said

On his part, Malam Suleiman Joji who received the share for Kauru Local Government Area, noted that the intervention from Katung goes to show the premium he places on the welfare of his people.

Joji noted that Katung’s short term at the National Assembly had brought unprecedented development to the people of Southern Kaduna.

“Never have we had a lawmaker that has the best of his constituents at heart like our present senator.

“It is our prayer that the Almighty Allah will continue to uplift and make him shining example to others,” he added

He also urged Muslims to use Ramadan to move closer to the Almighty Allah and conduct themselves properly to maximize the spiritual and physical benefits inherent in the month.

Others who spoke prayed God to replenish the lawmaker’s pockets and grant him the enablement to do more for the people of the zone.
