A bill seeking to transfer full ownership of all National Assembly properties from the control of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) back to the Assembly has scaled first reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill, co-sponsored by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and the Chairman, House Committee on Services, Hon. Daniel Amos, aims to correct what lawmakers describe as an “anomaly” in the current ownership structure.
Speaking to journalists in Kafanchan, Hon. Daniel Amos, who represents Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, said it was abnormal for the National Assembly—an independent arm of government—to function as a “tenant” under the FCTA.
“If passed into law, this bill will ensure that all National Assembly properties, both within and outside Nigeria, are fully owned by the legislature,” he said.
Hon. Amos emphasized that the 10th Assembly, particularly the House of Representatives, remains committed to enacting laws that will enhance governance and improve the lives of Nigerians.
Highlighting some of his legislative achievements, he noted his sponsorship of bills and motions, including one seeking the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State. According to him, the institution would not only serve his constituency but also benefit the entire state and the nation.
Beyond his legislative duties, the lawmaker reiterated his commitment to grassroots empowerment programs and called for sustained support from his constituents.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action.
