There is deep displeasure and anger brewing within the military over the reported long stay of the service chiefs in office.
A recently retired Brigadier General who pleaded not to be named for sake of his pension and gratuities, a legal luminary and university lecturers have disclosed this.
The general vehemently declared that the service chiefs must all be shown the way out.
Apart from the fact that the three service chiefs have overstayed and ran out of useful ideas, the general said that on moral grounds, they have stagnated and blocked the progress of their junior ones who have become angry as a result.
“Let me say it pump and play that many junior officers are very angry with continual stay if Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff. The service chiefs have all failed woefully in the premise of efficiency.
“They have ran out of ideas but now only amassing the resources of the services to themselves. They should get out of those seats immediately.
“Their course mates and even their juniors have all retired and they are still kept behind even when killings, insecurity, banditry have all heightened.
“Buratai should note that even before I retired many officers have been unhappy with him.”
An Associate Professor at the University of Calabar, Bassey Bassey said, “They have not done well at all. They have ran out of ideas, lost grip of the security architecture of the country, which reason Boko Haram, banditry, cultism, kidnapping have all overwhelmed the nation. If they meant well and ready to act, they should have truly routed these bad guys. We need new hands please.”
Justice Osai Ahiakwo who has his chambers in Calabar said “Their continual stay is now an embarrassment to the nation. Nigerians have not benefitted from their tenure except harvests of deaths. They have failed. From available information, there are too many foreigners in the country, and it is clear that they are responsible for these unpardonable killings. President Buhari must be compelled to sack them.
But Professor David Irefin of the Kogi State University who is also an Archbishop, said we should rather look at the spiritual side.
“What if their successors coming and are not able to impact any difference? We should realise that God might be punishing the country for the sins of nepotism, hatred, tribalism, corruption against His people.
“God is judging us for it doing what leaders are asked to do. National Assembly should rather be asking what have we done to be visited with so much calamities and killings. Nigerians should live one another regardless of tribe, sex, religion or social standing.”
