The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the death of the abducted District Head of Kanya, Isah Daya in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, two days after his kidnap along eight others who were rescued by joint security operations at Sakaba forest.

In a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, stated that regrettably while search and rescue operation was ongoing the dead body of the slained District Head was found in the forest.

In view of the foregoing, the statement added: “The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani is using this medium to condole with the Kebbi State government, Zuru emirate, immediate family and well wishers of the late district head of Kanya, Alhaji ISAH DAYA and prayed may his gentle soul continue to rest in Jannatul Firdaus.”

Responding to the sad news, a family member Aminu Kanya said the late District Head was laid to rest around 6:00pm on Tuesday according to Islamic rites, describing the evil deed as horrible action that shook not only the family but the entire District because of the irreparable loss.

He however thanked the security operatives for their quick response and the efforts they put to rescue the victims from the hands of their abductors, adding that the gallant display by the joint security team was a reciprocal move to the support Governor Nasir Idris had been rendering to them.

Kanya village had been a battle ground between the bandits and the security agencies as was displayed in 2022 when the then Deputy Governor, Col. Samaila Yombe Dabai, and the Commanding Officer 223 Light Tank Battalion engaged bandits in a fierce battle, losing 19 soldiers and killing scores of the kidnappers.
